Add a timestamp to photos you already took

Forgot to turn on the timestamp camera? Most phone photos still carry the date and often the location inside the file. This tool reads it and prints it on the photo.

Runs in your browser. Your photos and details are not uploaded anywhere.

How it works

  1. Choose your photos. Pick one or many JPEG or PNG photos from your phone or computer.
  2. Check the date. The tool reads the date the photo was taken from inside the file. If there is none, it uses the file date and tells you, so you can check it.
  3. Add a line if you like. Type an address, a job number or the word Before. It is printed under the date.
  4. Download. Save each stamped copy. Your original photo is not changed.

Where the date and location come from

Phone cameras save details with each photo, called EXIF data: the date and time it was taken and, if location was on, the GPS position. The tool reads those details in your browser and draws them in a box in the corner you choose.

Some apps strip these details when they send a photo. WhatsApp and many social apps do. If a photo came through one of them, the date shown may be the day you received it, not the day it was taken. Use the original from the phone that took it where you can.

Is a stamp proof?

A stamp makes a photo easier to read, not harder to fake. Anyone can edit text on an image, so a stamp alone will not settle a serious dispute. What helps more is a set of photos kept with the job as they were taken, with who took them and when recorded by the app. That is what JobProof does for each job, without stamping the image.

Questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser. You can turn off your internet after the page loads and it still works.

Why does it say "file date"?

The photo had no date inside it, which happens with screenshots, edited photos and photos sent through chat apps. The file date is the best guess, so check it.

Does it work with iPhone HEIC photos?

Only in Safari. In other browsers, set the iPhone camera to Most Compatible, or share the photo as a JPEG first.
